Roy Jones has more than 35 years of experience in leading non-profit organizations. He has published two award-winning books on development including Rainmaking – The Fundraiser’s Guide and the Amazon.com #1 best-selling business book, 101 Mistakes Nonprofits Make and How to Avoid Them. In addition, he has more than 27,000 iTunes subscribers listen to his podcast weekly at www.RoyJones.org.
Roy Jones now serves as the chief development officer at Eckerd Connects. The non-profit organization was founded in 1968 by Jack and Ruth Eckerd to provide and share solutions that promote the well-being of children, young adults and families in need. Their work includes foster care, adoption, workforce development, aid for the homeless, transitional services for troubled youth, and so much more.
Mr. Jones joined Eckerd Connects after serving for four years as Vice President of Development at Mercy Ships International. Jones led a team that helped grow the organization’s annual operational budget from $40 million to more than $80 million during his four years there and raised an additional $197 million for the capital construction of the largest private hospital ship in the world, providing free surgeries to the poor in Africa.
Roy Jones previously served as Account Director and Senior Advisor to the largest nonprofit fundraising agency in the United States, Russ Reid of Pasadena, California. He joined the agency in 2010 after serving as the chief development officer at America’s largest Christian school, Liberty University. Jones began his career in the political campaign arena in the 1980’s. He worked at the National Republican Senatorial Committee before transitioning to the Presidential campaign staff of President George H. W. Bush. He has remained an active advisor to many political leaders; Mr. Jones served as national finance director for U.S. Senator Rick Santorum’s Presidential campaigns.
He holds two degrees from Liberty University, a B.S. in Political Science and a master’s degree in Human Services / Business Leadership. He and his wife of 39 years, Melinda, have 3 sons and 6 grandchildren. In addition to writing and speaking on fundraising and development, Roy is an accomplished lead guitar player who studied under Anthony Marinelli in Pasadena, California.
